LEARNERSHIP PROGRAM

Every year Broadway Pharmacy has an ongoing learnership program to empower staff members to become qualified as pharmacist assistants under the mentorship of our pharmacist Leah Trollip.

Leah Trollip is a senior pharmacist working at Broadway Pharmacy for a few years now. Not only is she a Primary Care Drug Therapy (PCDT) Pharmacist, but she is also the tutor to our current learner Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistants, Happy and Stephanie.

Happy Zuma joined Broadway Pharmacy early 2013 as an After Hours cashier. She later went on to join the team as a permanent staff member, helping out in departments such as receiving and the cash desk.In 2022, she was selected for the leadership program, along with Stephanie Mattheus and under the tutorship of Leah Trollip. They have since completed their first year and become qualified Basic Pharmacist Assistants and are on to their second year of learnership, to become Qualified Post-Basic Pharmacist Asssistants.

Sumia Yakub joined the Broadway Pharmacy family in 2008 in the merchandising department. She was nominated for the training programme and today is a qualified post-basic pharmacist assistant. “Working at Broadway Pharmacy changed my future and my life. I have learned so many things,” she said.

A GLIMPSE INTO BROADWAY PHARMACY’S HISTORY

Broadway Pharmacy has come a long way since its humble beginnings way back in 1958.

Located in the heart of Durban North, on Swapo Road (formerly Broadway) originally stood Miller’s Pharmacy, owned by Les Miller. The pharmacy was sold in 1975 to Bill Stevens and became the Broadway Pharmacy we know today. Bill and Joy ran the emergent pharmacy for 10 years before selling it to their son, Craig, in 1985.

Under Craig and Wendy Stevens the pharmacy has flourished and become one of the leading independent pharmacies in KwaZulu Natal. Craig has ensured the pharmacy remains at the top of its game through every aspect of the business, aiming to provide the best experience to each customer.

PERSONAL SERVICE

Broadway Pharmacy keeps to modern lifestyles by being the first pharmacy in South Africa to introduce Zapper payments and marketing styles, always pushing boundaries to give their customers the most back with their loyalty programs. There is also currently a Product Loyalty Program where customers can get up to R3400.00 back to spend in the pharmacy.

Justifiably proud of the company’s solid reputation for personal service and willingness to go the extra mile to make a customer’s experience smooth and hassle free, you’ll find Darren Bowler is always able and willing to help with his 13 years’ experience at the pharmacy.

DISPENSARY

The dispensary offers a fast track counter where customers can pre-order their scripts and medication and simply walk in to collect without having to stand in the dispensary queue. Customers can pre-order their medication using our website, WhatScript (Bitti), or simply, WhatsApp. Upload your script under our services tab allows our customers to upload their scripts from the doctor’s office which then sends it straight to our emails. Customers can register for WhatScript to get a reminder when it is time for their repeat medication (and opt to get it packaged) and ready for collection. WhatsApp allows for customers to get their medical advice and submit scripts and orders for them to collect when ready. You can also opt to pay by Zapper beforehand for a smoother in- store experience.

CLINIC & SERVICES

The in-house clinic is well supported by the community which offers services that range from baby wellness to cholesterol screening to HIV counselling. The clinic also offers ear irrigation, trauma and post-op wound care, and Know-Your-Numbers screenings. Our qualified Sisters administer flu vaccines, adult and childhood immunisations, as well as test for blood grouping. They are also available to advise on the pharmacy’s comprehensive range of incontinence products.

The pharmacy also has a range of surgical items to purchase which includes nebulisers, blood pressure monitors, blood sugar monitors, crutches, wheelchairs, commodes, walkers and more.

COMMUNITY

Community engagement has always been a high priority for Craig and Wendy, whether it is helping out charities like the Robinhood Foundation or hosting free public workshops. Workshops in the past have included Antenatal Classes for New Moms, Breastfeeding Awareness, Self Defence, and “Let’s Talk Hearts” which focused on cholesterol and offered free cholesterol screening to attendees. Keep an eye on Broadway Pharmacy’s social media platforms for information on the next community workshops and events.
